Student-Keeper Competition Paper Guidelines

           

Student-Keeper Manuscript Requirements

 Manuscript Submission

  • The Student-Keeper Nutrition Award Application must be submitted with the manuscript.

  • Manuscripts must be submitted by 1 March 2007 to the Student-Keeper-Keeper Paper Administrator, Barbara Toddes.  Manuscripts must be submitted electronically in Microsoft Word for consideration. (Mail to: toddes.barbara@phillyzoo.org). 

  • Authors of selected manuscripts will be notified by 1 May 2007, and revised full version of manuscripts will be due on 1 June 2007.    

  • Award papers will be presented as 20-minute talks.

  • For consideration for the Student-Keeper Paper awards, full manuscripts must be submitted.   Manuscripts must be written in accordance with the Format and Style Specifications described below. Papers must be presented, by the author, at the 2007 NAG Conference.

  • Papers must be original works and may not have been published in full or in part previously.  Manuscripts published in the NAG proceedings may not be submitted for publication anywhere else without written permission from the NAG Steering Committee.

 

Format and Style Specifications

1.  Use single-spaced, 12-point, Times New Roman type.

 2.  Use one-inch (1”) margins on each side, top, and bottom of each page.  Text should be full justified (do not use right and left alignment).

 3.  Do not number pages. 

 4.  Do not use author’s surname or running title at the top of pages.

 5.  Title should appear in capital letters at the top of the first page. 

 6.  Names, and current academic or professional affiliations of author should be listed below the title at the top of the first page.  Numerical superscripts corresponding to current academic or professional affiliations should appear next to the author’s name. 

 7.  References should be cited in the manuscript text with superscript numbers and the reference list should be arranged alphabetically at the end of the manuscript. All references contained in the reference list must be cited in the text.  Citation style is provided in the enclosed example.

 8.  Tables and figures should fit within a 4“ × 6” area and should be submitted on disk in IBM-compatible graphics or spreadsheet program format.  If it is not possible to submit computer-generated tables and figures, please provide clearly and completely labeled, high-quality reproductions.  All tables and figures will be edited for style and formatted for publication.

Acceptable Topics for Student-Keeper Papers

                  Any topic pertaining to animal nutrition will be accepted.  Student-Keepers submitting manuscripts on domestic or pet animals are required to include an explanation on relevance to captive animal nutrition within the text of the manuscript.
