MS Graduate Assistantship

MS Graduate Assistantship - We are seeking an enthusiastic MS graduate student to focus thesis research on the recovery of one of the most endangered birds - the Guam Micronesian Kingfisher.  The kingfisher currently exists only as a captive population, although work has been started to return the birds to a suitable Pacific island.  The research associated with this project will be aimed at gathering and synthesizing information from the captive breeding institutions, and using those data to identify ways to improve population management.  Additional work may address techniques needed to facilitate the release of the kingfishers in the wild.  Ideal candidates possess experience with in situ and ex situ conservation, interest in endangered species conservation, supreme quantitative skills, and excellent communication abilities.  The successful applicant will receive a teaching assistantship which provides an annual stipend of $14k, a tuition waiver, and research expenses.  Work will be completed at the University of Missouri-Columbia (http://quinnkesler.net).  To apply, please email a letter, CV, undergraduate transcripts (unofficial), GRE scores, and contact information for three professional references to Dr. Strauch and Dr. Kesler at mkcaptive@picra.net<mailto:mkcaptive@picra.net> before 5 November.
